The state of Utah is not without its quirks, and perhaps the most immediately obvious is locals’ penchant for dipping their fries in this brazen blend of ketchup and mayonnaise. Its origins are disputed, but most accounts trace it back to a mid-century burger chain that either combined the condiments to save time or somehow waste it, depending on who you believe. Today, you’ll find it anywhere in Utah that serves French fries, often adding in relish, garlic, or minced pickles.
