Pork Roll/Ham

There are two ways to tell what part of New Jersey someone is from: Ask their exit off the Jersey Turnpike, or ask “Pork roll or ham?” Say “pork roll,” and you’re likely from South Jersey; “ham” and you’re from up north. Either way, this deli and bagel shop stalwart has been served in the Garden State since 1856. The name was changed from it's original branding to pork roll in the late 1800s when federal law designated ham as a specific cut of pork. No matter the name, you’ll find the stuff on breakfast sandwiches all over the state, and even tattooed on the occasional New Jersey native.
